Chair of JpGU Meeting 2010

Kazuo Hirahara Kyoto University

Results made by the Government Revitalization Unit to which Japan Geoscience Union has submitted statements were to prioritize economic efficiency and try to decrease science related budget and suspend young researchersf cultivation. There arose a criticism of many science related researchers. On the other hand, this open to the public screening process was meaningful with the respect that science related budget was made clear to the public and rose the debate among them. It also sought the accountability of researchers. From these points of view, JpGU Meeting assumes important roles to announce and exchange cutting-edge researches, explore interdisciplinary new fields of sciences, educate young researchers and furthermore put out the information to the public.

JpGU Meeting 2009 held last May was the first meeting after Japan Geoscience Union has become the corporation and enjoyed 4,807 participants, 3,088 abstract submissions and 134 sessions. It happened to coincide a time when new flu was in pandemic fashion, and we had to establish countermeasure office. We thank you for your time and courtesy in responding to the questionnaires.
